Welcome to UW Cancer Center Riverview

Headed by medical directors Dr. Ron Kirschling, Medical Oncology, and Dr. Anna K. Olson, Radiation Oncology, the University of Wisconsin Cancer Center Riverview is the leader in bringing innovative, complete cancer care and treatment to central Wisconsin.

In November 2006 UW Cancer Center Riverview became the first in central Wisconsin to offer helical tomotherapy, the most sophisticated and effective image-guided and intensity-modulated radiation therapy that exists today. Invented by scientists and oncologists at the world-renowned University of Wisconsin Paul P. Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center, tomotherapy uses CT scanning plus highly targeted beams delivered from all possible angles to attack tumors and cure cancers with unprecedented precision. Because each beam angle includes a relatively small amount of radiation, the body's healthy tissue is unharmed and any pain or side effects from the treatments is minimized.

Cancer Center Earns Commission on Cancer Accreditation

UW Cancer Center Riverview recently received a Three-year Accreditation with Commendation by the American College of Surgeons - Commission on Cancer. The CoC Accreditation follows an October 12 on-site survey by the Commission on Cancer.

Applying for and maintaining CoC Accreditation is a voluntary commitment by a cancer program. Being accredited positions our cancer center to ensure that patients receive “quality care, close to home,” while being able to improve performance based on nationally recognized quality measures and standards of care. CoC Accreditation is recognized by The Joint Commission, CMS, NQF (National Quality Forum), The National Cancer Institute, and insurance companies as having established performance measures for the provision of high-quality cancer care.

UW Cancer Center Riverview will now be able to participate in the National Cancer Data Base and will have access to Comparison Benchmark Reports and other tools that will allow our center to compare with others regarding quality of care. Here, data on all types of cancer is tracked and analyzed to explore trends in cancer care and create regional and state benchmarks that serve as the basis for quality improvement.

CoC Accreditation also allows our cancer center to participate in “special studies” that are developed to address important issues in cancer care.
