Ron J. Kirschling M.D.
Medical Oncologist/Hematologist
Trained at the world-renowned Mayo Clinic and the Medical College of Wisconsin, Ron Kirschling, MD, is the center's medical oncologist and hematologist. Medical and research advances allow him to offer care and treatment options in a community hospital setting at UW Cancer Center Riverview that were once found only at major academic medical centers.
Board certified in internal medicine, medical oncology, hematology and hospice & palliative medicine, Dr. Kirschling offers comprehensive management of cancer. He earned his bachelor's degree at the U.S. Air Force Academy, and while serving in the Air Force was a medical oncology consultant to the Surgeon General of the United States. He also is a past president of the Minnesota Society of Clinical Oncology.

Anna K. Olson MD
Radiation Oncologist
A native of Green Bay, Anna Olson, MD earned her degrees from Marquette University and the University of Wisconsin Medical School. Dr. Olson completed her residency in radiation oncology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
In addition to providing radiation oncology services at UW Cancer Center Riverview, Dr. Olson joins the team of physicians and scientists at UW-Madison who work to bring new treatments to cancer patients.

Dr. Harari holds the Jack Fowler Professorship of Human Oncology at the University of Wisconsin - Madison, where he serves as Director of Head and Neck Oncology Programs. Dr. Harari earned his BS at Tufts University and MD at the University of Virginia.

Research Nurse
Research Nurse Diane Maciejewski, RN, coordinates clinical trials at UW Cancer Center Riverview in both medical oncology and radiation oncology. Clinical trials are research studies designed to learn whether promising approaches prove to be safe and effective in treating cancer. For cancer patients who fit the criteria, a clinical trial offers hope when more traditional methods have proven ineffective. |

Family Nurse Practitioner
Michelle Peterson, RN, MSN, is a family nurse practitioner specially trained in oncology. Michelle draws on her extensive experience as a staff nurse and urgent care nurse practitioner to bring exceptional care to cancer patients. Michelle earned an associate degree in nursing from Southwest Wisconsin Technical College in Fennimore, a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Viterbo University in LaCrosse, and her master of science in nursing degree as a family nurse practitioner from Concordia University-Wisconsin. She is a member of the Wisconsin Nurses Association and the American Nurses Association. Michelle is certified as a family nurse practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. |

Yi Rong, PhD
Medical Physicist
Medical Physicist Yi Rong, PhD, works to provide medical physics consultations, develop patient radiation therapy treatment plans, assure dose delivery accuracy of the center's helical TomoTherapy, and collaborate on radiation oncology research. A native of China, Dr. Rong earned a bachelor of science degree in electronics from Peking University in China and a PhD degree in medical physics from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. In addition to providing medical physics support at UW Cancer Center Riverview, Dr. Rong is an assistant professor in the Department of Human Oncology at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health.

Adult/Aging Nurse Practitioner
Mary Schwanebeck, RN, ANP-BC, is a nurse practitioner who focuses her practice on seeing radiation oncology patients. Mary earned her bachelor of science degree in nursing from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire and her master of science degree as an adult/aging nurse practitioner from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Mary is certified as an adult nurse practitioner and an advance practice nurse prescriber. Prior to completing her nurse practitioner training, she was a staff nurse and nursing supervisor at Riverview Hospital. |

Administrative Director
Lori Slattery Smith, RN, BSN, is administrative director of UW Cancer Center Riverview. Lori began her nursing career at UW Hospital in Madison, WI, then came to Wisconsin Rapids as a nursing supervisor at Riverview Hospital in 1988. Her career has taken on many different avenues, which eventually led to her employment once again through the University of Wisconsin as director of UW Cancer Center Riverview. |

Clinical Social Worker
Nicki Williams, MSW, APSW, Social Worker, received her bachelor's degree from Winona State Minnesota and her master's degree from Augsberg University. As the oncology social worker at the UW Cancer Center-Riverview she will be following along throughout your care. The oncology social worker can provide counseling and other services which can reduce stress for you and your family through all phases of your cancer treatment.

Dosimetrist and Radiation Therapists
The radiation therapy team at UW Cancer Center Riverview includes a dosimetrist and radiation therapists who work closely with the radiation oncologist and medical physicist. A dosimetrist specializes in calculations of radiation dosages, while radiation therapists administer and monitor TomoTherapy treatments for cancer patients. |

Oncology Nurses
All certified in oncology care and treatment, members of the nursing team at UW Cancer Center Riverview work closely with the oncologists and cancer patients to coordinate their care.
UW Cancer Center Riverview is pleased to announce that every member of its nursing staff has achieved certification in oncology nursing. OCN status follows many hours of study, testing and clinical practice with oncology patients. To remain certified, these registered nurses continue to undergo significant ongoing education to stay updated in oncology care and maintain OCN certification. The special skills and knowledge acquired through such an ongoing regimen promote the best care possible for UW Cancer Center Riverview’s oncology patients.
