This is more a tribute than an editorial. I have cancer, but this is not about me - it's about the UW Cancer Center at Riverview Hospital.
From the moment one walks in the door, you are treated with great respect - not a number on an insurance form. Once called in from the waiting area, you go to a room where your blood is drawn and other statistics are taken. Although this is routine, those two beautiful ladies there make your visit start off with laughter and a feeling of belonging.
Next is your doctor or nurse practitioner who update your latest test results. They answer all your concerns with such great knowledge and compassion. Then on to the angels in the chemo room. The nursing staff there works with the work ethics of a well-oiled machine. When you have a concern, they sit down next to you and talk as long as it takes to address your issues. Their job must be rewarding and hard at the same time. They treat you like family.
So from the volunteers in the waiting area with cookies and coffee, to Carol in the payment department, you couldn't be in better hands when cancer hits home.
With genuine thanks to everyone at the UW Cancer Center.
